Outreach

Preaching to the empty chairs
Unlike in Kenya, where we really enjoyed a good and well established outreach program, outreach program in Helderberg is a big challenge for us. So far I thought we must take our own initiative to create our own outreach program or I would never have any to post in my blog, but after then we realize that what Helderberg needs is actually an in-reach program, not an outreach one.
I have tried to response an invitation  to support the SID media production & Hope channel by sitting as audience during the recording of Pierre van Westhuizen singing performance, but found out that was boring. The recording time took more then 4 hours, and it also started very late. However after the recording it was fun and nice to get to know some new friends.

The other in-reach program was an invitation to take part in the students worship program. Unfortunately, I was approached by the boys' assistant dean while I was at the Choir and Music performance on Sabbath afternoon. I got the impression that he approached me because no-one there was ready to be the speaker for the Sabbath evening vesper.
We went to the worship hall and found the empty chairs. After about 15 minutes there were about 11 of us in the hall. I decided not to use the pulpit as we move closer together then started singing, praying, and worshiping the Lord in spirit and truth with a few remnant God's chosen saints.

Outreach at Kibabet
Reach out the nature beauty beyond the long, winding and muddy paths. Probably this is the reason why the nature beauty of the Kibabet hills, forest, caves and water-falls remain so beautiful untouched by man destructive greed for commercial profit. We took a long walk through the muddy road to the unrevealed Kenyan hidden astonishing lovely nature to celebrate God's Sabbath.

A Visit to Tambach Boys' High School
Tambach Boys' High School is located in Tambach village, Iten. A high altitude place with majestic beauty of cliff, rocks and water fall. It is so green, so cool and so peaceful.
We went for an outreach program for the SDA students who study here. Unlike in other place where we conduct our program inside the building, here we really enjoy the nature beauty while having our Sabbath worship.
There are also members from other congregations who joined us for the Sabbath program.
We finished our program at about four in the afternoon.
The following pictures describe the real nature beauty of Iten, a place that produce not only world class marathon champions, but also champion for Christ and one of them is our chaplain Pastor Rey Kesis.

 Camping meeting at Namgoi
Sabbath September 3, 2011 we joined the UEAB Outreach group for the closing ceremony of the Namgoi church camp meeting.
It became more interesting because the village bear a name which sounds like our name. There were about seven hundred people attended the program and many of them were also children. After the Divine worship we enjoyed githeri- menu of corn and red beans stew, then the program continue with songs, presentations and marching led by the UEAB Outreach groups and the Path Finders.

Going out with Chumba
That morning Chumba - the snake man asked me,"Do you want to join me for a snake hunting?"
We were canoeing at the university dam when Chumba received a call from the village, that they found a snake in the kitchen.
I decided to go with him and agreed to meet him at the university gate, because he must take the snake catching rod and the bag for the snake.
We met at the gate then crossed the road passing some muddy places down to the village. Along the road, a group of children started following us. "If you allow them, in few minutes there will be hundred of them" Chumba told me. He asked me to take a picture with children, so then he may tell the children to leave us. However, I saw a lady carrying  firewood and decided to take pictures with her, too.
We arrived too late and the snake had run away.

Tindinyo outing with Outreach group
It was a warm and beautiful Sabbath. We sang, prayed and enjoyed testimonies and encouraging presentation. Outreach group has taken so many young people to know Christ. We took part in distributing certificates in the afternoon program. However, clouds and rain came just right after we finished, and we were stuck on a muddy road for more than two hours in Chepterit on our way back to campus.
The following pictures are the photo essays of the outreach Sabbath June 25th activities at the Tindinyo water fall campsite.

Outreach at the Kaborok Public Secondary  School
The following pictures are from our Outreach program on May 14, 2011 at the high school nearby Kericho, which is about 3 hour drive from our campus.

Join the children Sabbath school in Kibera
During Sabbath school class discussion, instead of join the adult class we decided to join  the children Sabbath School, my wife Linda participated with the mothers taking care of the little babies.

Kabote High School
University out-reach and  promotion groups conduct  regular visitations to various High Schools in the surrounding area of Rift valley region. Sometimes we joined this group and spent our Sabbath with them, and we found it was very enjoyable. The following pictures are from our visit to Kabote High School, which is located in the middle of Williamson Tea Plantation, Nandy Hills.

A visit to Chemundu village
On Holidays or vacation, we like to visit the surrounding villages and experience the rural life. People are so poor materially, but so nice and so rich in spirit. Children play freely in nature, this reminded me of my childhood life in home village Kotamobagu, Bolaang Mongondow- Indonesia. The following pictures are the pictures in Chemundu, a village about 20 minutes walk from campus.
